New Horse, Old Bridge

The Twilight Bark news section of D23’s website continues to be a great source for little news tid-bits about the Disneyland Resort:

  • 03.27.09 — Danny Makes His Debut!
On March 20, Danny the Clydesdale made his debut as the newest addition to the horse-drawn streetcars on Main Street, U.S.A. At 5 years old, Danny is the youngest of the horses that pull streetcars from Town Square to Sleeping Beauty Castle.
  • 03.27.09 — Pacific Wharf Bridge Reopens
The Pacific Wharf Bridge in Disney’s California Adventure opens again on April 3 after a planned refurbishment. The bridge connects the Pacific Wharf area with Golden State Plaza.

The Forgotten Land

An area at Disney’s California Adventure we rarely ever talk about is Pacific Wharf. But now it seems that land will be getting some attention in the very near future. First up, walls should be going up around the deserted Lucky Fortune Cookery restaurant this Monday, & that restaurant will become the new home of the restaurant currently opposite it, Concina Cucamonga. The reason for this move is to allow for a larger location for the popular restaurant. The original Cocina Cucamonga location will remain open until the new version is ready to debut (with an expanded menu) on June 13th. There’s currently no word on what will become of the original Cocina Cucamonga.

Secondly, a refurbishment of an undermined length of The Boudin Bakery Tour & Restaurant will take place beginning February 9th. However this is likely just routine maintenance.

Darkbeer DLR Picture Update

Let’s take a look at the preparations for today’s opening ceremonies, with pictures taken yesterday from David “Darkbeer” Michael:

Signs were up through-out Tomorrowland directing guests to the attractions while the Innoventions Dream Home opening ceremony was taking place

A couple of attractions were closed as well

I presume the train was still operating, but just went straight pass the Tomorrowland Train Station

Moving over to Toy Story Midway Mania’s opening ceremony preparations

I think this is where the ceremony stage went up

A second stage was also up right by the attraction

Filming by Mr. Potato Head

And now a couple of non-ceremony related pictures:

The temporary stage in Pacific Wharf is gone

The It’s a Small World sign is now behind tarps too

Korean Dance Troupe Performs at DCA

A Korean dance troupe visits Disney’s California Adventure this week for a series of daily performances as part of the Anaheim theme park’s Year of the Rat celebration.

Hi-Seoul Art Troupe from South Korea performs traditional and modern music and dance during nine shows daily today through Sunday, from 10:45 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. at the Pacific Wharf food court stage. The shows are included in the cost of admission.

Performances include: “Hwa Gwan Mu (Flower Crown Dance),” “Buchae-Chum (Fan Dance),” “Pan Gut,” “Samulnori (Sitting Pan Gut)” and “Beat Circle.”

The Seoul-based group aims to preserve and revive traditional Korean arts by showcasing genres ranging from royal court dance to traditional farm music.

Monday in the Parks Update

Quite a few interesting pieces of news were posted in this week’s Monday in the Parks column on MiceAge, & I want to take the time to go through some of them here:

  • For the whole summer, Disneyland will be open from 8AM to Midnight, but due to Grad Nites, Disneyland will close at 9PM this Wednesday & Thursday, & then next Thursday as well. DCA will close at 7PM those nights for the Grad Nite Blast Off event.
  • The Magic Morning opportunity, that gets hotel guests into Disneyland one hour early, will be conducted on Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday, & Saturday this week.
  • Over at Pacific Wharf, the Hi Seoul Korea performance troupe will be performing a variety of different shows through Sunday, June 15th. Be sure to check the Times Guide for show times.

  • This Sunday, DCA will hold its first ever triathlons, with swimmers actually swimming in the Paradise Pier lagoon! Contestants will enter & exit the lagoon by using the boat ramp near the launch of California Screamin’.

  • The smoking location for the Tomorrowland side of Disneyland will be moved from the entrance to the Tomorrowland Railroad station, to the former Motor Boat Cruise loading station, which is now known as Fantasia Gardens.

The clock tower itself from the Small World facade is out from tarps… Bit early if you ask me!
