The WDWNT Podcast Nominated for Best Travel Podcast!

Over the past 3 and a half years, the WDWNT Network has been blessed with a number of incredible accomplishments. The latest, and perhaps greatest, of them is the nomination of the WDW News Today Podcast for Best Travel Podcast in the 2010 People’s Choice Podcast Awards. Thanks to our incredible listeners visiting PodcastAwards.com and writing in for us, we received a nomination. The final phase is going on now, and we’re calling upon our listeners for help once again. We are asking you to PLEASE vote for the WDW News Today Podcast for Best Travel Podcast by visiting PodcastAwards.com and voting daily through Wenesday, December 15th. Together, even as a great underdog, I believe we can achieve this goal. From the moment WDWNT was founded, we were told we wouldn’t make it. Here we are quite some time later on the verge of another great accomplishment, and once again we need to call upon our readers and listeners for help. We have the most die-hard Disney fans in our audience. I truly believe that you, more than anything else, have been the key to our success. Whether it’s raising $3000 for Toys for Tots or award nominations, I am proud of our staff and audience everyday. Win, lose, or draw in these awards I wanted that to be known (Although we would really like to win).

Thank you for your continued support,
Tom Corless

WDWNT Network Presents 24 Hour Live Show To Benefit Toy For Tots

Following a tradition that started with the inception of WDW News Today in 2007, we will once again turn our focus to raising money for Toys for Tots during the 2010 holiday season. In 2009, we were able to raise $1807.00 for the charity during our inaugural 24 hour “WDWNT Live!” show. In the hopes of raising an even larger amount for this charity in 2010, I’m proud to announce that we are once again hosting a 24-hour-long live program to benefit Toys for Tots.

The show will air on www.WDWNTunes.com beginning at 9PM ET on Friday, November 26, 2010, and running until 9PM ET the following day, November 27th. We hope that you will be able to join us and will make a donation to this great cause, making sure every child has a happy holiday season. If you can not make it to the show, you can still make a donation to Toys to Tots through a widget we will be adding to our sites following the program. If you can make it, I can guarantee you’ll be in for an entertaining time, whether you join us for 1 or 24 hours. We hope to see you at the show!

Thank You and Happy Holidays,
Tom Corless
Founder and CEO of the WDWNT Network

NOTE: We will be playing a game of Disneyland News Today’s “FAN-ly Fued” during the live show, please answer this survey and help us make this game happen.

WDWNT Announces Incredible Opportunities To Join Our Team

At the WDWNT Network, we are always looking at opportunities to grow our team, and today we are proud to announce a new concept to help us find new staff members:

Photo & Video Sharing by SmugMug

“Who Wants To Be a Podcaster?” is a necessary evolution of our hiring process for The WDW News Today Podcast. We receive frequent emails from listeners who want to become contributing members on the show. Instead of performing our customary interviewing process, we decided to actually let the listeners of the show pick two new staff members that they’ll be listening to each and every week. Through a preliminary review process of all the entries, we will select 10 contestants to vie for the two positions.  In their appearances, the contestants will participate in regular segments on the WDWNT Podcast, as well as some other WDWNT Network programming, to earn votes from the listeners. Every week, the audience will vote for their favorite contestants and every week we will eliminate the contestant with the least number of votes. In this way, we are taking the interactivity to a whole new level.  While this may all seem a bit extreme, we truly feel that putting the control of the show in the hands of the listeners will help us find the two best candidates. If you are interested in participating, send us an email at wdwnewstoday@gmail.com before September 24, 2010, with your name, your availability to record (days and times you have to devote to the podcast), and a short description about yourself and your Disney fandom.

We are also looking to add more staff to our technical team at this time, but we won’t be doing it with all the frills of the Podcast reality show concept. If you have any experience in web development or graphic design and would be interested in helping with the day-to-day operations of the WDWNT Network, please contact us by email at wdwnewstoday@gmail.com. Very similar to the instructions above, please provide us with your name, availability, and a short description of yourself and your Disney fandom.

WDWNTunes presents “Super “See Ya’ Real Late” Sunday”

Photo & Video Sharing by SmugMug

When the WDWNT Network announced a late night Disney talk show concept back in May, many questioned if Tom Corless, Chris Lastrapes, Jose Castillo (and the Soundboard Band), and the rest of the WDWNT crew could carry out the project. Could they combine interviews with the Disney online community with a comedy show that was actually funny? Apparently, the listeners of this program think so! Since the debut episode back on June 16th, “See Ya’ Real Late” with Tom Corless has been drawing record numbers of listeners to WDWNTunes, the WDWNT Network’s online radio station. In celebration of the successful first season and season finale of this one-of-a-kind LIVE program, WDWNTunes is dedicating Sunday to “See Ya’ Real Late”.

The fun begins at 1PM ET with a marathon of the first 9 episodes of season 1. If you missed any of the excitement of these episodes during their original airings, this is your chance to catch each and every episode of the entire first season back to back. Don’t miss all of the incredible interviews, moments, and skits that have made this show such a success. Following that, our virtual red carpet returns with hosts Brandon Struve and Banks Lee of the WDWNTunes Super Obscure Show. Banks and Brandon will be walking up and down the carpet, interviewing guests as they arrive for the HUGE season finale.

Finally, it’s the main event, the season finale of “See Ya’ Real Late” with Tom Corless, starting at 11PM ET. There is literally too much show! Following the events of Wednesday night’s show, members of D64 (the anti-D23 coalition) will be invading to battle D23 members in a war to finally settle the score. We’ll also etch the final chapter in the “Lou-Log” and find out if Lou Mongello of the WDW Radio show has accepted the invitation to appear. Tom also welcomes guests Suzannah DiMarzio of the “Zannaland” blog and Paul Barrie of “A Window to the Magic”. If all of that wasn’t enough, listeners can expect a few HUGE surprises that promise this show will be a shocking one from start to finish!

Don’t miss Super “See Ya’ Real Late” Sunday, a celebration of WDWNT Network’s revolutionary LIVE late night talk show. Again, the fun begins Sunday, August 22nd, 2010, at 1PM ET, with the season 1 marathon, continues with the virtual red carpet special at 10:30PM ET, and concludes with the historic season finale of “See Ya’ Real Late” with Tom Corless at 11:00PM ET, all at www.WDWNTunes.com. We hope to see you there!

WDW News Today Celebrates 3rd Anniversary – July 8th, 2010

It’s hard to believe it was three years ago today that I sat down and finally pulled the trigger on creating a Disney fan website, but it’s even harder to believe the world that surrounds myself three years after that decision was made. I had no idea or intention of creating a website, a podcast, and a brand that would be enjoyed by thousands. To be honest, I was happy to see just a few visitors trickle in every day.

WDW News Today was created to fill a niche that I wanted to see a fan site cater to: providing a little bit of Walt Disney World news and information each and every day. In 2007, this community was a very different place. The “big” sites updated their sites maybe once a week, twice a week if we were lucky. Everyday I would make the rounds, visiting the same bunch of sites, getting incredibly excited when one of them had even a minor update. It had always been obvious that Walt Disney World has enough restaurants, attractions, shops, resorts, etc. throughout its history to provide more than enough content on a daily basis. With that premise, WDW News Today was born. The initial response was trivial, most famously it was stated on a certain forum (that will remain nameless) that WDWNT “would not last more than 3 months.” I don’t think I need to tell any stories of what happened after this….

I’ll be the first to admit the site was very bad in the beginning. It was hideous, we didn’t have photo reports, and it really was just myself and a team of 4 or 5 people trying a lot of different things that mostly didn’t work. Things did get better, and I can’t deny that It has had more to do with the team that surrounded me here, rather than anything I did myself. I have been truly blessed to be connected to an incredible staff as we’ve grown over the past 3 years, a team that I not only consider to be my colleagues, but among my very best friends. This “family” that has been brought together by this crazy idea may be the greatest gift of the entire experience, a gift that is provided through your continued support of our work.

WDW News Today’s evolution into what is now the WDWNT Network has been an unpredictable miracle. The growing fan-base, as well as the growing staff of talented and devoted people, has forever changed my life for the better. The only way I can re-pay this gift is through hard work and keeping the promise I made on July 8, 2007, that “WDW News Today is a site created for you, the Disney World fan, and will be dedicated to educating and entertaining you about this magical place.”

I thought it might be fun to look back at our very first news posts that were made the morning after the site opened. It’s amazing how correct we were with some of the rumors mentioned below:

7/9/2007

The big news this week is the removal of the Epcot wand and the refurbishment of Spaceship Earth that both begin today. Expect the entire second half of the Spaceship Earth attraction to be completely different from the current version when it reopens in mid-November.

Over at the Disney MGM Studios, Toy Story Mania’s main building is shaping up nicely and should be complete by September with the attraction opening in Spring of 2008.

At Animal Kingdom, work on the Yak and Yeti restaurant is picking up pace as the rush is on to be finished by October. Don’t be surprised if the restaurant doesn’t open until November/December of this year. Also worth noting is the newly announced refurbishment of the Astro Orbiter in August. Some major interior updates are in store for the spinning planets as the idea is to get them spinning much to the speed they originally did.

Over at the Disneyland Resort, they have added a Project Tomorrow exhibit to Innoventions in Tomorrowland. The exhibit is somewhat similar to the Project Tomorrow exhibits at the exit of Epcot’s Spaceship Earth.

Pecos Bill’s Cafe in the Magic Kingdom has added four touch screen ordering systems for guests who wish to pay by Credit Card and those who have a Disney Dining Plan. Expect to see these changes in all WDW fast food locations by year’s end.

Today, the associated press had a story about the death of longtime Disney animator Art Stevens back on May 22. Art worked on Fantasia, The Fox and The Hound, The Rescuers, Winnie the Pooh, 101 Dalmations, Robin Hood, Mary Poppins, and Bednobs and Broomsticks before his retirement in 1983. He was 92 years old.

Well, thats it for now, but everyday we will have news updates and i will be sure to update news as it happens throughout the day every day. Thanks for reading the soon to be #1 source for Walt Disney World news! See ya real soon!

We continue our celebration tonight at 9:30PM ET at www.WDWNTunes.com with our annual live anniversary show. We hope you can join us for that. Again, thank you for your support and admiration over the last 3 years, I can’t begin to explain what it means to me. As long as there is a Walt Disney World Resort, we will continue “Bridging the Gaps Between You and the World”.

New Details on WDWNT: The Weekend

It’s hard to believe we are just under 4 months until the WDWNT Network holds its first-ever event at the Walt Disney World Resort, WDWNT: The Weekend. As we stated when we announced the tentative schedule for the event a few months ago, things were subject to change. Some things have changed. In an effort to make the events more affordable, we have changed the venue for our Live Podcast and Breakfast event and reduced the ticket price. The event will still be held on Saturday, August 28th, but will now be held in the Cape Cod Room at Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Convention Center. Tickets for the Live Podcast and Breakfast are available now, you can get all the details on what’s included at this link (Tickets are also still available for our Liberty Tree Tavern and Boma group meals on the same page).

Many have asked us about being able to participate in the event from home. We are proud to announce that there will be a few different opportunities to do so. Of course, we will be broadcasting the Live Podcast event on WDWNTunes, but we are also proud to announce a new event that will allow those at home to play along with those in attendance. We’re calling it “WDWNT’s Future World Adventure”. While we can’t give you all the details just yet, it will be an event where teams of WDWNT: The Weekend attendees compete for prizes and our followers sitting at home can play-along simultaneously. Stay tuned for more details on this fun competition as we get closer to WDWNT: The Weekend.

We were asked on multiple occasions “Why is the event in late August?”. To answer the question, we wanted to pick a time of year that was both affordable and gave our guests the opportunity to take part in other special events at Disney World. When we selected dates for the event, we had a feeling that the annual “free dining” offer would be available for bookings during WDWNT: The Weekend, and we were right. You can book “free dining” or one of several other special offers for the Walt Disney World Resort during WDWNT: The Weekend at our special booking page, courtesy of Magical Travel.

We will be providing more frequent updates concerning WDWNT: The Weekend now that we are getting closer to the event. We’re looking forward to seeing you there!!!
